A Noiseless Patient Spider
For this project, I designed promotional material and projections for a contemporary dance performance based on a poem I select from Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. I started by choosing a choreographer and musician to “collaborate” with based on my interpretation of the poem and my concept for the performance. I developed a typographic identity for the performance through a series of hierarchy and compositional exercises. I also developed imagery that represents my performance using a variety of image-making techniques. Finally, I combine image and type to design a set of posters, a self-mailer and animations for the performance."
A noiseless patient spider,
I mark’d where on a little promontory it stood isolated,
Mark’d how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launch’d forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.
And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be form’d, till the ductile anchor hold,
Till the gossamer thread you fling catch somewhere, O my soul.
